Notes – Messier 51

–  M51, NGC 5194, The Whilpool Galaxy
–  NGC 5195 physically coneccted to the small neighbouring galaxy NGC 5194 (M51)
–  two clouds that touch, on being fainter than other M51
–  this is first galaxyin which spiral structure was observed
–  several of the soiral arms can be tread visually with a 10 or 12 inch reflectorunder good conditions
