Messier 64 – Black Eye Galaxy
This bright, beautiful spiral galaxy is Messier 64, sometimes known as the Black Eye Galaxy in the constellation of Coma Berenices (Berenice’s Hair).

The dark clouds along the near-side of M64′s central region that give the galaxy its black-eye appearance are enormous obscuring dust clouds associated with star formation.

Very bright and large elongated – extremely bright nucleus.  Dark dust lane (the Black Eye) is obvious on photographs but visually difficult in small telescopes.

See the SkyMap and Star Chart Atlas.
