Ghost of Jupiter (NGC 3242)
Many years ago the planetary got the nickname “Ghost of Jupiter” because it is somewhat shape and about the same angular size as the giant planet that William Herschel discovered this planetary nebula on February 7, 1785, his home was at Bath in the United Kingdom – any small telescope can see it on a clear night.
NGC 3242 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Hydra. This planetary nebula is most frequently called the Ghost of Jupiter, or Jupiter’s Ghost, but it is also sometimes referred to as the Eye Nebula.
